Managing Trauma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology (MTOG)

This course is an introduction into the recognition and management of surgical emergencies in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. It includes an introduction to basic anaesthetic management and emergencies in addition to advance anaesthetic considerations in Obstetrics (such as intubation of the pregnant patient). It also covers common surgical emergencies such as:

 

  • Pre-Eclampsia

  • Placental Abruption

  • Shoulder Distortion and Instrumental Delivery

  • Post-Partum Haemorrhage

  • Resuscitation of the Obstetric Patient

 

The morning session includes teaching on how to recognise and manage surgical emergencies, while the afternoon session sees students put their knowledge into practice through structured OSLERs and Moulages.
